Sistering Ceremony

The Sistering Ceremony took place on Saturday 6th October 2007.

at Chatel-Chehery Village Hall

It was well attended with around 150 people present. The formalities were attended to by Dr. Robert Bell, President of Tennessee Tech, Cookeville, TN and Mons. Roland Destenay, Mayor of Châtel-Chéhéry.

Dr. Bell presented the village with the document that twins the two communities for all time.

The interpretation was carried out impeccably by Michel Baert and the ceremony was followed by a reception in the village hall.

Dr. Cathy Deppen, a great-great niece of Alvin York was also present.

There followed a field-walk of the village admirably explained by Dr. Lucien Houllemare and then a complete walk of the YORK PROJECT battlesite with explanations and map depictions by Michael Kelly and Jim Deppen.

Finally a dinner was held in the village hall.

Please find here some pictures of the occasion.

In Tennessee an impressive monument marks the time line of important events that affected the city — Sgt York's inscription is shown (right).
